What's On The iPod

It's Yeasayer and their new album Odd Blood. And no I don't actually have the vinyl, that would be really cool, I just thought this would be a great pic. Anyway thanks to a very good friend of mine, who just recently introduced me to this Brooklyn band, I now have the pleasure of listening to them whenever I want. To describe them in the normal sense would be difficult but if I had to venture a guess I would say Erasure on crack. They actually have elements of a lot of different bands and that's what makes them so intriguing.

In Print: Spin Magazine 25th Anniversary

I can't believe it's already been 20 years since I was at SPIN Magazines 5th Anniversary Party at Roseland in NYC, boy am I getting old. That night I was invited by one of my dorm-mates to join him and a few others after he had scored free passes from some freelance photography work. His name was Bugsy.  I didn't much like him but it was a party with free drinks and for an 18 year old like me a great chance to meet girls. What I did get was KC and the Sunshine Band, LL Cool J, Paul Shaeffer and a few beers. Quite a night. That really feels like a long time ago. This week SPIN magazine put out it's 25th Anniversary edition and it certainly brought back a lot of great memories. I always read SPIN in the search for new music because they have always been a great source of discovery. For instance it's where I first read about The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend and many, many others. However in this retrospective issue, SPIN tracks the 25 moments that rocked the world of music and it's an amazing trip through music history. Please take the time to go to the store, or newsstand, and pick up this special issue because you won't get the same feeling from reading it on your computer.

New Music Tuesday 5/4/10

Ah Tuesday, my favorite day of the week, no really it is. It's the day when all the new music is released, so of course it's my favorite day. My problem is that I always  want to buy everything so I have to pare it down to a select few, so here is my list of wants. New today from one of my favorite bands, Broken Social Scene, is Forgiveness Rock Record. It's been 3 years since we have gotten any new music from BSS and in my opinion thats way too long. Second on my list is Minus The Bear's Omni, which is also their first release in 3 years and since I first discovered the band and their last album Planet Of Ice. Third is the new album from The New Pornographers, Together, which is a band I have just started to listen to and am excited to hear the new songs. So run out to your nearest record store, oh wait, run to your computer, check out the new music and see if you fancy it as much as I do. Other notable releases today: Deftones: Diamond Eyes, The Hold Steady: Heaven Is Whenever.
